Geneva to Burgundy
We'll be flying into Geneva and want to get to Beaune. Should we rent a car in Geneva and drive-if so, about how long a drive is it? Or should we take the train and rent the car in Beaune? If anyone has made the trip I would appreciate your advice.

Hi Rick,
It is an easy drive from geneva to Beaune - about 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive on the autoroute. If you rent a car in geneva, rent from the French side of Geneva airport so you do not incurr different country drop off fees. Have a great time - Beaune is a fabulous town.

Bonjour Rich,

A few pointers.

- Gas is cheaper in Switzerland than in France.

- if you intend to drive on Swiss freeways, make sure the rental car comes with a "vignette" so you don't have to fork the Swiss Francs 40 for the 10 minutes it takes to get out of Geneva to France.

- From the French side of Geneva airport (Secteur France), you can avoid going through Geneva and drive directly towards Ferney-Voltaire, then left to Saint-Genis, then Bellegarde, and join the autoroute there. It is a bit shorter, the road is in good condition, and you'll avoid the wait at the border on the freeway.

- Don't speed, don't drink and drive. French police has started cracking down on the kind of irresponsible driving that is thought to be a god-given right in France (at last ...).

- Have a good time. ;-)
