Geneva Switzerland to Matterhorn

I will be in Montreaux Switzerland on October 14-17, 2003. I would like to arrange a day trip to the matterhorn. Is this possible/feasible. Any ideas other than renting a car.

You can do it by train, taking a train from Montreaux to Visp and changing there to the BVZ Railway (the station is right next to the SBB station) for the train up to Zermatt. Once in Zermatt it is an easy change, again more or less across the street to the Gornergratt Railway station for the ride up to view the Matterhorn from above. The trip from Montreaux to Zermatt itself takes about 2 1/2 hours. Enjoy it!

I think the town is Brig--not Visp.

It is Visp.

Thank you Ingo..if you go all the way to Brig you'll simply have to come back to Visp again..just wait there and change for the BVZ train to Zermatt
