geneva - lugano
driving time these 2 points? thanks

What part of Lugano are you going to, and when are you going? If you are travelling on a weekend in summer or ski season, there may be major delays at the Gotthard tunnel on Fridays and Sundays. Without traffic, the trip would take you about 5 hours. With traffic, it could take up to an additional 3 hours. If it is snowing, add more time. Given the traffic, price of gas and cost of a rental car, I would suggest you take the train. It is a very beautiful ride through the Alps to Lugano. Train time from Geneva to Lugano is 6 hours.

According to the timetable I looked up here in Switzerland, the train between Milan and Lugano will take 1 to 11/2 hours, depending on when you go during the day, and whether there is a connection necessary. You can look up schedules at the following sites:

treinitalia.com
SBB.ch (this is the Swiss Railways site, but you can get schedules for places
outside Switzerland as well)

Two helpful websites for driving in Europe are:

twenj.com
drive-alive.com (you can put in your destination and get a road map)
