Geneva holiday
 

Two ladies over 6o would like to go to Geneva in October flying from Liverpool or Manchester. Would like details of reasonably priced accommodation near to airport, preferably with a room each.

The only reasonably priced place in Geneva is the City Hostel with single rooms, near to the city train station.

Reasonbly priced? Hm... thinking of a two-star hotel?<BR>If yes, Try Hotel Lido. Hey ladies, why don't you consider staying IN Geneva? That way, you won't have to constantly come into the city and go back out, which is a 20 minute (and expensive) taxi ride one-way, or a 10 minute train ride but from the airport itself, meaning you'll have to take a taxi to the airport train station and back every time... <BR><BR>There are some budget hotels in the city, don't really know what your budget is. Look up hotels on www.geneve-tourisme.ch A couple like Hotel Central (tel. 41-22-8188100; www.hotelcentral.ch) and Hotel Savoy (tel. 41-22-906 4700; near the train station) come to mind. Or try one near the lake, like the Hotel Drake on Rue Rothschild. You can't take a nice evening stroll on the lake from an airport hotel, can you??<BR><BR>

Bonjour Trudy,<BR><BR>As suggested, you'd be better off staying in Geneva rather than near the airport. I can't really recommend a particular hotel, but I've consistently heard that the 2-3 stars close to the Gare (station) Cornavin are all clean and convenient. The two "youth hostels" close to the station both have single rooms and enjoy a good reputation. <BR><BR>Outside a very few streets in the Paquis (the local red light district, nothing too wild, remember Geneva is Calvin's city) and the 4th floor of the under lake parking, Geneva is very safe at all hours.

Addendum: Whatever you do, if you stay in Geneva itself, and if your hotel is on Rue de Lausanne, make sure you get a room facing IN BACK and not on this street - it's quite busy and I doubt any double-pane windows will keep out the noise. For instance, at the Hotel Savoy, believe they have courtyard-facing rooms and that way you're fine...

Hi Trudy<BR>I should have said that the 'City Hostel' takes all ages including me - 50 plus and I am staying there in october. Go for it, you will save money and enjoy Geneva. It has an excellent reputation.
