Geneva airport to Annecy
I've searched the web and it seems the cheapest mode of transport from Geneva Airport to Annecy is via the public bus. Has anyone tried this out with suitcases in tow? There are 6 of us in the group and each will have a suitcase, are the buses luggage friendly? Any other recommendations on affordable alternative forms of transport to Annecy?
By the way, we are flying to Geneva from Paris. Any thing I should be looking out for? Thank you. |
The Frossard service uses, in French, "un car", which translates into English as "coach", not "bus".
So luggage is carried in a luggage compartment under the passenger compartment. Coaches from Geneva airport are how virtually all foreign skiers get to resorts in the French Alps - and even those who go by train transfer at Moutiers or Bourg St Maurice onto such a coach. I can't see why you think "having suitcases in tow" is any more of a complication on the coach than on the plane. Around a million of us - all with suitcases in tow - use these services to get to the French Alps every year. The REAL downside is the infrequency of most of these services: Frossard scarcely operates at all at weekends, and there are often four hour gaps between services even on weekdays. Googling "Bus OR transfer geneve annecy" gives you a range of alternatives - but they're all taxis, or transfers via the Geneva city centre bus station |
Agreed with above reply. It's a coach with separate luggage compartment underneath. Agreed also about the down side = the infrequency ( maybe not so long as 4 hours, but could well be or close ) so better to check the timetable and be prepared. Checking on http://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html ( swiss train site but gives also Annecy coach. Those that require 0 change are the coach transfers from Geneva Airport to Annecy Gare Routière - coach terminal ), I see for example ofr today, deparures at 11h00 (express 1 hour transfer time ), 13h00 and 16h00 ( 2 hours ).

Trains to me are always better than buses and though from Cornavin Airport you have to yes go to the Geneva main bus station you can take a train there or close to it from the airport and then take a short bus ride to Annemasse, just over the border in France and then get fast trains from there to Annecy - taking about 2.5 hours all told from the airport. |
