I appreciate all your help.
Month - october , arriving Geneva 5.30 pm (airport) . I am intending to rent a car. Intending to drive to montreux, but on the next day. My husband cannot drive at night.
preferred to pay up to E 200 (CHF I do not know the amount). Central area (preference) . Any ideas? If possible (maybe I am asking too much a modern hotel ) tks.

My first thought is to stay near the airport and rent car in morning when checking out. Overnight parking costly which is why we used train instead of rental car. Airport to train station of Geneva takes 5-10 minutes; check in at hotel, take train to center of Geneva for dinner near the lake, return to hotel and you're off first thing in the morning without hassle. Check guides for airport chain hotels which should be less than 200E or corresponding CHF.

Picking up a rental car at the airport may incur extra fees. I'd pick up at a non-airport non-train station location.

I'd also rather stay in Geneva than at the airport. Only one night there, might as well take advantage of it.

Check booking.com and tripadvisor.com for hotels and reviews.

I agree - take a train into Geneva for the night. Then, if you insist on driving rather than taking the train, rent your car in the morning at a place other than the airport.

On your way to Montreux, Yvoire is a gorgeous, medieval town worthy of a few hours!

Sorry can't help with an airport hotel, I always train directly out to Vevey or Montreux upon arrival.

Yvoire may, indeed, be gorgeous -- but it is in France on the south side of Lake Geneva. Another route to Montreux goes through Switzerland on the north side of Lake Geneva. The northern route (which is accessible by train) offers opportunities to stop in Lausanne and in the terraced vineyards of the Lavaux, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The OP is intending to rent a car. Nothing wrong with the south side of the lake IMO. It also presents the opportunity to stop off in Evian les Bains.

The vineyards and Lausanne can also be visited from Montreux.
