I'll be in Geneva for about a week but have the weekend free. Any good trip suggestions that are close? Any good restaurants in Geneva?

Head out to Lausanne, Vevey, and/or Montreux. There're just an hour by train from Geneva. Sitting right along the lake. Lovely places.

The vineyards in the area are worth a visit. Some good restaurants there, in the Lavaux.

Go on a Saturday morning and attend the local open air weekly farmers market in Vevey. Big fun.

Chateux de Chillon outside Montreux. Rocher de Nayes tram ride up the mountain also form Montreux.

Gruyeres is not too far and make a nice 1/2 day.

In Geneva itself, don't miss Patek Philippe museum. I'm not a watch buff but was quite impressed with the exhibition.

There's a historic "Old Town" part of the city that has nice bars, shops, restaurants.

I would also suggest that you consider Annecy, which is only a 45 minute drive from Geneva. Beautiful town on the lake, full of canels like a little Venice. Train connections on this particular route are not terrific, so if you don't have a car, I'd opt for Montreax, another of my favorite places.
As for good restaurants, there is a super place in the pretty village of Veyrier, a suburb about 15 minutes from the city centre, called La Reunion. However, you will need to go during the week as they are not open on Saturdays, a common problem with restaurants in Geneva.
Another good restaurant is in Carouge, a trendy old neighborhood just over the river, once owned by Sardinia. Lots of good shops, cafes and restaurants including Les Negociants. Again, not open Saturdays. A more casual restaurant, with great steaks, is La Bourse which is situated on the main Carouge square and is open 7 days a week.
If you really want to splash out, "the" restaurant is the "Lion d'Or," about 5 minutes outside the city centre in the wealthy neighborhood of Cologny. Great views across the lake and michelin starred food.
Geneva restaurants don't open until 7p.m., but only get busy after 8.30, so if you arrive early without a reservation, you may get a table.

Lots of good restaurants in Geneva, but recs will depend on your tastes.

We visit several times a year and some of our favorites include:

-Any restaurant at La Reserve - both the Chinese restaurant and their French restaurant are both top notch.

-Heaven Lounge - trendy, excellent food, limited wine list

-Cafe des Negociants - cute neighborhood, excellent winelist, good for cold winter evenings

-Les Gouts des Autres - cute neighborhood, excellent winelist, good for cold winter evenings
