Hello,
This is more of a general question but if you had a choice of London, Frankfurt or Paris international airports to fly into, which would you prefer.
Coming from Australia - the flight time is LONG - I'm looking for the best entry point to travel in Europe. In particular I'm interested in Italy and Switzerland.
And out of interest which airport do the fodors travellers think is the best in Europe as an entry point for the rest of Europe?

Well, where are you planning to visit? You don't just fly into some random airport and then pay good money to travel to another country. Airports are airports, some more palatable than others, but generally speaking, you fly to the country you want to visit.

Trying to use FF points and I have 3 choices London, Frankfurt or Paris. Planning on visiting Rome, Milan, Amalfi Coast, Bernina Express, Switzerland (Bernese Oberland). Not necessarily in that order. And probably won't make it to all these places. Just some very early research

I would choose the airport where you get the best connection to Italy (best price and connection). Personally I dislike CDG and Heathrow. It's been too long since I've flown into Gatwick to comment.

I like Frankfurt but I know others who hate that airport. It's probably closest to the places you want to visit.

Just came back from London, Paris and Rome. I flew from Singapore (long flight time too) into CDG airport. I had heard many stories about CDG being a terrible airport, but it was actually quite easy to navigate and gave me no problems at all.

I also used Gatwick and the Rome airport. Both are smooth and easy to navigate too, and the security lines aren't that long. I used Heathrow a few years ago, and that was relatively painless as well. As far as I know, the worst airports I have ever experienced are all not in Europe (JFK, LAX and Bali) so you're good no matter where you land.

When using European airports, do take note that there are usually two different sections for immigration: EU citizens and all other passports. Don't end up in the wrong line like I did.

I much prefer Frankfurt over LHR or CDG - - it feels like less of a zoo and it's close to the city (though I like Gatwick because it has a smaller feel, and the train ride to the city is nice). The best of all is Schiphol in Amsterdam though (pretty, updated redesign, friendly, easy, close to town, great supermarket outside customs).

Thanks all. Frankfurt seems the way to go... Unless I can squeeze in a few days in Paris!

May I suggest that you fly into Paris - 6 nights
Fly or train to Rome.
Visit Italy for the rest of the time.
Why are you leaving out Florence and Venice?

Do you have to return from your first airport?
If so, split the time in Paris.
