Geneology Help in Magdeburg Germany
I'll be in Magdeburg Germany in early July. How can I get help finding the cemetary that my grandparents are buried? I have a photo the the grave stone, but nothing else.
|
I found my family through the Lutheran church archives in the city where they lived in Germany. Do you have any more info?
|
Genforum.genealogy.com/germany Go to this site and you can post any message about your family. The more information the better. You will have to sign in and get a password. No cost to post. Good luck. Richard

When did they die? According to German law most graves are cleared after 20 or 25 years.
|
Have you checked the geneology center of your local LDS (Mormon) temple? After looking high and low for info. on my wife's grandparents in Germany, we found all the needed info. at the center.

I didn't know that, quokka. That happens in Italy too regarding the newer graves these last decades. That thought always makes me sad. But the old cemetaries seem to have the original graves.
And I too was going to suggest church records, Catholic, Luthern or? If you know of course, rkruff. |
Providing they were protestants, the Mormons will be of no use in this case because the regional Protestant Church refuses them access to their church registers. At least that is what I heard when I worked with the church administration.
Do you have any more information about your grandparents, for example where exactly they lived, their confession/religion? |
Magdeburg has more than a dozen cemetaries, four public cemetaries, six church cemetaries, two jewish cemetaries and a number of military cemetaries.
Here is a comprehensive documentation (in German): http://tinyurl.com/yykzcjo |
I hope to be in Magdeburg, Germany in July 2011. I need to find the graves of my Grandfather Prottel and his daughter Nancy [Nanni] Prottel. I would appreciate any relative of the Prottel's to email me regarding the location of their graves in Magdeburg's West Cemetery. Many thanks! Roy Kronsbein

Roy, are you sure the name is Prottel and not Pröttel?
Lot of Pröttels in and around Magdeburg, see http://www.verwandt.de/karten/absolu...%25B6ttel.html |
