GEMS - Non touristy places to eat
We leave in less than 2 weeks, going to Venice - 2 1/2 days, Florence - 3 days and Rome 4 days.
Looking for great restaurants, not touristy and moderately priced. Do not care if off the beaten path. What are your GEMS?
Also is a private tour for the Vatican at 2:00 pm long enough?

My favorite restaurant in Florence is "Sasso di Dante" right off the right side of the Duomo-looking straight at the front-very tiny restaurant in an ancient bldg. where Dante allegedly once lived (which isn't saying much-there are lots of places in Florence that claim the same thing!) GREAT food, very local, not touristy AT ALL. Has a tiny outside dining area where you're looking square on the Duomo. very special.

Florence:
Trattoria Il Giova, Borgo La Croce,73R corner Via della Mattonaia-this place is about a 10-15 minute walk NW of Santa Croce in a residential part of Florence. It?s tiny and the menu is small and hand written but the food was wonderful! And reasonably priced. We also loved Osteria del Agnolo on Borgo San Lorenzo. Enjoy your trip!

rosedr, I posted our faves of Florence and Venice on your other thread.
Airlawgirl, does the place you are referring to have a tiny outside area to eat on a balcony on the second floor? If so, we saw that place often and wondered if we should try it. Of course, I would have wanted that particular table.
Carol, Osteria del Agnolo was our favorite in Florence, as well! We stayed in an apartment across the street, so it was very convenient for us, too.

Statia-sorry, I didn't see your question. No, Sasso di Dante does not have a balcony- it has a built on outdoor dining area on the ground, which is also very small, so diners can have the view of the Duomo while eating. Because I didn't have a specific address, I went on the Internet to see if one was listed, and there is: Sasso di Dante is located "close to the Duomo on Piazza delle Pallettole." I highly recommend it.
