Gellert Hotel
I´m planning to stay at the Gellert Hotel on a single room basis. The travel agency told me I´ll charge $ 55 /night. However I have received some info telling me that the single rooms are in the 4th floor and are not very good. Any suggestions ?. Thanks.
Gellert? Is this some mecca we all should know about? Kindly provide name of country and name of city and maybe someone will know. Europe is larger than you may think.

And YOU'RE charging the hotel? Please let me in on THIS scam - I could've been a millionaire.....

If you are referring to the Hotel Gellert in Budapest, I can only pass on info that I heard both on this forum and while in Budapest. A lot of the rooms are still leftovers from the Soviat era. There is remodeling going on but was not finished last I heard. The positive is that you get to use the baths at no additional charge when you stay there. I've also read here that the breakfasts are not very good.
Rooms are not left from the communist period but from the times before WWI.Single rooms are very very SMALL.
Staff is not really nice.Location is good, bath is great, but try to find something else.
Eva

Once again, I can't find my postsd messages (posted just less than a week ago) Bringing this to the top again. We ended up booking the Gellart after much reassurance from the booking agent. After reading some negative posts (from last year) about the Gellert (Budapest) Does anyone have any recent experience with staying at this hotel?

We stayed at the Gellert in fall of 2000 and really enjoyed it. Our rooms were some of the renovated ones, on the front overlooking the Danube, and the management granted our request to have all five of our rooms on the same floor. As for breakfast, I can't imagine who said it was not good! It was a huge buffet with everything you could possibly want, served in a pretty sunny room, and the coffee was great, too. The Gellert had the best breakfasts on our trip (Vienna, Salzburg, Munich).

Yes, I agree with former postings we stayed in a lovely big room facing the river but going to the baths I saw some horrible little rooms. Probably from the Soviet era...

Thank you Eva. I'll take your word on the Gellert, as I know you live in Hungary and you are very informed on Budapest too. Thank you. I'll be in Hungary in seven weeeks, for five weeks. I am so excited!! Alice

On my first stay at the Gellert I reserved a single room - they are small but for $40 dollars what do you expect? My second and third stay I reserved a larger room with a queen size bed - much better. The breakfast buffet has improved considerably. It still has a bit of that communist era charm but I also think the Cure is one best bands in the world.
