GDV to TGV
Our plyin arrives to CDG at 7:55 AM, TGV to Avignon, Provence leaves at 9:25 AM. This is 3.5 hrs train with either a stop or change in Lyon - 117 Euro for 2 tx. Next train is at 11:43 AM - is 2.45 hrs and 170 Ero for 2 tx.
1. Is it possible to make the 9:30 train? I2. Is extra 1 hr on the train worth the saving of 53 Euros and possibly risking missing the train if airplane is delayed? Thanks in advance |
You can just get to the airport. Go to TGV station and then book your ticket.

leuk2,
170 Euros is a discounted fare 9 belive it or not), I really do not want to pay more than that.... |
Hi B,
ww.voyages-sncf.com shows PREMS fares for the 11:43 train of 35E in 2cl and 40E in 1 cl. When are you going? ((I)) |
okay, first, yes, it is possible to make that. It is not guaranteed, however, so the gamble is yours. If you buy a PREM and don't make it, you lose that money. If it isn't busy, you could get off the plane and past immigration about 8:45-9, I'd say. If you have no checked baggage, it should be fairly easy to get to the TGV station by 9:25. Well, it would be if you know what you are doing and go right there, especially if you can walk from wherever your plane lands. If you have to collect baggage, it is still possible, but you never know. Sometimes on Air France that can take at least a half hour until it gets out there, if not a little more.
You have to decide yourself what money is worth your time. Usually mid-day fares are cheaper, not more expensive, but there is some other difference in those trains, obviously, due to the time. One must have a lot of stops but I suspect a change. I would not want to change trains upon arrival with jet lag, but that is also up to you. It isn't just time, it is also stress (and some effort) -- getting off and then trying to figure out where you need to go to catch the next train, and immediately hustling there (with all your bags, on and off twice). |
ira,
We are arriving at CDG on USAair on Sept 5, 2009. I did not see any low fares at all. I'll try again. Thank you all |
BIG assumption that the flight will arrive ON TIME and not always the case..please plan accordingly.
|
If you are arriving on USAir, you'll be coming into aérogare 1 and will have to transfer to aérogare 2 to get to the TVG station. Given that it often takes a plane almost half an hour to taxi to the terminal upon arrival, and that you'll need to get over to the other terminal, plus wait for luggage if you've checked any, I would doubt you'll make that train.
Also, where are you finding these expensive train fares? You should be able to do much better than that. At any rate, I'd buy tickets for the later train. |
StCirq,
I went on TGV Europe site last night and that is the fare I found. Today I see a 128 Euro for 2 tickets. Fortunately, i have an option of returning the exoensive one. Is there another site for cheaper tickets? |
www.voyages-sncf.com
The cheap PREM fares are gone now. The best I'm seeing is 64 euro per person on the 11:43 train. |
