It's more direct and much more quicker. The connection between Line A westbound and Line B northbound at Châtelet-les-Halles is a simple cross-platform. Have you already tried the La Chapelle / Gare du Nord connection ? (Line 2 is overground at that particular station, and La Chapelle is nearly 1/2 mile north of Gare du Nord, athough the connection between the two is through the "plaza" above the RER platforms at Gare du Nord. In any case, the La Chapelle connectioninvoles stairs, gates, turnstiles and a good 10 minutes walk).

I generally avoid Les Halles but in this case it is obviously a better choice. Other connections there are terrible.
