British Pound Breaks Through $2 for First Time in Nearly 15 Years

--------it now costs around 92 pence ($1.84) for a liter of unleaded petrol, compared with 46 pence when the currency was last at $2 in 1992, an average 2.56 pounds ($5.14) for a pint of lager, compared with 1.48 pounds and 85 pence ($1.71) for a loaf of sliced white bread, compared with 54 pence.
------------
A gallon is 3.7854 liters so gas (petrol) is $6.97.

Thank goodness most cars in the UK get 45 mpg!
When are we going to demand this kind of efficiency here in the US?
We're griping about paying $3.40/gal med. unleaded here in CA... actually, the folks driving the big SUVs and trucks that get 9 to 18 mpg are griping....it's just going to go up.

When does the point come when Americans stop traveling to Europe because of the poor exchange rate? I'm close.

And a pint of Bitter was 26 pence

The last time I remember 1 pound equaling $1 was in 1985. It did go up to $2 to the pound in 1992, but then fell back again. Perhaps this latest increase will only be temporary.
