Gay nightlife in Rome?

Can anyone suggest where a gay couple can go for an evening out in Rome? Thank you for any suggestions.

Below is a link to a restaurant that is gay owned - I'm not sure if this is what you meant by an evening out but it's a start and may help in the search.

Have fun! Eileen

Message: I always carry the card of this restaurant with me in case anyone asks this question, that's how good it is.

I spent an incredible 3 hours there, chatting and being made to feel right at home, eating and drinking exquisite dishes. Everything was cooked to perfection; the chef, Giuliano Brenna, creates amazing and not outrageously priced meals.

It's Gay-owned, but there were tons of straight neighborhood people there, so you needn't feel out of place if you're straight: it's all about the food!

You can visit the website and book a reservation for a trip later:

Buon appetito!

You should also try the 'Thorn Tree' on LonelyPlanet.com.
It's travel forums mostly geared to young backpackers with a 'Gay & lesbian Travellers' branch.
Post on that branch but also on the 'Western Europe' branch for info.
The 'Thorn Tree' also requires registration and there are no problems with Spam from them.

Try a general web search. I just typed in "Gay+Rome" and got quite a few including www.gayrome.com with club and restaurant listings.

I'm no expert on Rome, but am a regular poster on several travel sites & Fodors is not the best resource for gay information. Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree already mentioned, is good suggestion.

There is an area of Rome that is called something like the "boardwalk", or "beach", or something like that. My friends went there several times last summer, and raved about it. There is an admission charge of a few $s, and then you walk all around (kind of like a street fair) and can dance, eat, drink, etc, etc. I will try to find out where it is, exactly, and what it is called. I believe it opens kind of late & goes all night.

Also, my guidebook lists a disco called L'Alibi on Via Monte Testaccio 40-44 as a good place. Open Wed - Sun 11PM - 4:30 AM.

Perhaps if you go to one of the establishments mentioned on this thread, people there will know about the open street fair that I was describing, and tell you where it is. As I said, my friends went several times, and had a great time. I'll post back if I find out more...

You might ask one of the playful Gladiators outside the Forum - a few of them looked like they would know exactly what you were looking for.

I, too, can recommend Giuliano Brenna's restaurant, Asinocotto. It's in Trastevere, which also has some gay bars, but they're not obvious or well-marked, so you'd do well to check some of the other sources mentioned in these replies.

I too would recommand the thorn tree on www.lonelyplanet.com . There's a forum dedicaced to gay travel.

Thank you all for your suggestions, your help led me to http://it.gay.com/guide/italy/Italy/...Roma/index.php
which gives the scoop on all gay activities in Rome.
