Gaudi tour
 

Will be visiting Barcelona next week and one of the main things we want to do is visit some of the buildings designed by Antoni Gaudi. The main ones seem to be the Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, Casa Batllo and La Pedrera. Has any one else done this tour and, if so, would appreciate any guidance that can be provided. Are all these within walking distance from Las Ramblas or do you need to take the metro? Which order would you visit these in and how much time would you allocate for each? Can you visit the interior of the last two? Are there any other Gaudi gems that we might be missing? We are in Barcelona for 2 1/2 days and would like to see some other parts of the city apart from our interest in Gaudi.

It's very easy to visit all the incredible Gaudi sites. I don't think that the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell are walking distance although I belive the other 2 are.
We took a 1/2 day city tour which included the park (which is amazing) and the Sagrada.
The remainder are easy to visit at any time.

Don't miss the Picasso museum and tapas.
Bring home Rioja wine. The prices in the supermarket were so low compared to the States.

From Las Ramblas, you'll really need to take the Metro to get to Casa Batllo and La Pedrera (which are just across the street from one another). You can get there easy on the metro from Placa Catalunya, and then take another Metro to Sagrada Familia. All three are a fairly long walk from the top of Las Ramblas at Placa Catalunya. Unless you're ready for a really long hike (several miles), take the bus to Parc Guell. There are suggested walking and bus tours in the Eyewitness guidebook for Barcelona that we found very helpful when we visted Barcelona in May.

You can tour the interior of La Pedrera, even tour the roof with its sculptures and view of Sagrada Familia. The walking distance is a question of how far you want to walk - I walked it from Las Ramblas to La Pedrera and then down to Sagrada Familia. Of course, we stopped at a cafe between LP and SF. I do remember that it's slightly uphill from Las Ramblas to LP, and slightly downhill from there to SF. The walk allows you to check out some of the "hidden" Gaudi architecture in the buildings along the street to LP. If you don't mind walking, it's a good way to see different parts of the city, and the route is safe.

I visited LP first, then SF - I would suggest touring LP first, even with the others included, since that was his home and gives you basic biographical and chronological info about Gaudi himself. I would allow about an hour for the entire tour of LP.

For SF, allow a good two to hours, just to be safe. There's so much to look at! There wasn't much of a line when I visited, but I'm not sure if it's different depending on timing. If you're not bothered by heights, the complete tour is a must at SF. You can actually walk up into those crazy spiral towers.
