Gatwick to Stanstead HELP HELP
 

I need to reserve a flight out of Stanstead soon, but am trying to make connections from Gatwick. All info I've found looks like a three hour journey. If we arrive at 11:00 is it unrealistic to expect to be in Stanstead by 1:00 p.m.? I read a post once on here that sounded like there was a direct train between the two airports, but can't find it on Britrail's web. Can anyone assist me? Thanks!

Try a search on Google (www.google.com) for Stansted Airport or Gatwick Airport as I'm sure there's information there about transferring between airports. It's not the easiest journey but 3 hours sounds rather a lot( I'd have said 2 hours max.)

There is no direct rail link, but there is a bus that runs approximately every 2 hours. Stansted, while the smallest of London's 3 busiest airports, is quite congested during peak times (like early afternoon). I doubt you could make a 1:00 p.m. Stansted flight if you arrive at Gatwick at 11:00 a.m. As a matter of fact I can say with much confidence that you will NOT make it. Even a taxi ride takes about 70 minutes (and $160USD). My advice is take the bus, but allow plenty of time.

Thank you. After reading your posts, and think we will attempt to book a later flight, even if it means losing part of a day at our destination. It sounds like we'd never make it by 1:00 p.m. I really appreciate the help!!!

I would plan on a MINIMUM of 5 hours between arriving Gatwick and leaving Stanstead. You have to collect your luggage and clear immigration at LGW and make your way to the coach (or train or taxi). Then you must be at Stansted at least an hour before departure - more at busy times because of the bottle neck at security). Add the 2 - 3 hour journey - even 5 hurs may be cutting it close on a busy weekday.
