Gatwick to Heathrow shuttle?
 

We are arriving into Gatwick and have to connect to Heathrow Airport. Is there a shuttle? How long does it take? What would a taxi cost approximately? <BR>Thanks

There is bus service from Gatwick to Heathrow. This is probably the easiest way to make this connection. Do not even think of a taxi unless you are rolling in money. The bus, as I recall, takes about an hour or so, but I do not recall the cost. You might do a web search for Gatwick airport and I think there is info there.

It all depends on how many there are of you, and how much luggage. Two of you with one suitcase each? Take the bus (Speedlink) - allow 3 hours (traffic tie-ups), although it usually takes about 1 1/2 hours or less. If you are going from a British Air flight to a British Air flight, you can get a voucher at their service desk (across the floor from the Speedlink desk) for a free ticket. The bus is comfortable, and the luggage is stored underneath. <BR> <BR>If there are more than two of you, or you have lots of luggage, hire a car and driver; a car that held two people and their luggage was about $90, if I recall correctly. The driver met them outside immigration, took their baggage to the car parked curbside, and helped them with their bags at Heathrow.

Renee, you have probably already taken your trip, but for others who may be taking this shuttle between airports, make sure you check in at the little bus terminal for a boarding pass, even though your airline might have already given you a voucher. There is sometimes a waiting line, and you get on the shuttle bus only if you have the right-colored pass (i.e., you've been waiting the longest). Another reason to give yourself plenty of time to make that connection.

I looked up the schedules and price which is about $16 when converted. Does anyone know if they take credit cards at the Speedlink desk? Also, am I correct in assuming that when taking a connecting flight on the same carrier (I don't mean the same plane, of course) that checked luggage is automatically transfered between airports.

Last year British Air paid for the shuttle and our luggage was checked through.
