Gatwick - time through immigration?

I am planning to travel to England in March and have a flight due to arrive at Gatwick at 9:00 AM. Can anyone tell me approximately how long I should plan on to get through immigration/passport-check and baggage?

I am looking at booking a discount train ticket which requires that I select a particular time (rather than an open all-day ticket) and I want to make sure I allow myself enough time to get through the airport and to the train!

Thanks!

It took me 10 minutes arriving this Tuesday at 8 am. But it's taken me 45 minutes or so too.

If you have "FastTrack" access it can take a very few minutes even when lots of overseas flights are arriving.

Otherwise it will all depend on how many other flights have arrived around the same time.

I'm assuming you would be in the "other passports" line and not in the UK/EU one. I am a US citizen thus based my answer on that.

Are you taking the train into London - or somewhere else??

If it is just to London (or Brighton or somewhere else in the SE) you really don't need to pre-book.

Of course, if it is a long distance train, that is different and you definitely can save by booking ahead.

I have gone through Gatwick twice. The first time was a breeze--about 15 minutes. The second time took over an hour. So, I think it depends on how many planes are landing at that time.
