Gatwick or Heathrow?

I have a slightly better deal going to Gatwick, and the flight is direct both out and back (that's a BIG plus in my book). Anyone have anything to say one way or the other? Is one airport less hassle/smaller/more accomadating/etc. than the other? Will be going to Green Park. $ not really a consideration as far as transport cost to Green Park (Hilton). Will have a driver, most likely, meet me. Thanks for any help, your thoughts, M.

LHR is much more convenient to the city, tube station etc. From LGW you must take a train. Think of Dallas Love vs DFW, LGA vs EWR, HOU vs IAH.

If you are going into London, both are convenient. There is the Gatwick express train or the Heathrow Express train. Personally I do not do the tube! From Victoria or Paddington take a taxi to your hotel. They are both easy , inexpensive and convenient. In fact on the return journet to airport I prefer them to a driver. you can check your luggage in and get your boarding pass before getting on the express tain. saves incedible amount of time.

If you want get a driver in , fine but it will probably take longer than the train with traffic, I really see no advantage but do the express train back to airport for convenience

If you are having a driver pick you up at either airport I'd choose Gatwick. Might have something to do with the fact that I've sworn never to fly into Heathrow again ;-) A direct flight out and back is a big plus. Heathrow is a labyrinth.

Jody,
NWA has a baggage check/check in at Victoria station? Sounds great.
Thanks everyone for the feedback.
M.

No there is absolutely no difference in your case which airport you use.

Mike,

Check with NWA , we fly BA and they have it along with some others

Mike,

NWA ( I assume that is Northwest airlines) do not have a check in facility at London Victoria Station ( AA and BA have one- but not sure after the events of 11th September.) NWA use the south terminal (the same terminal that the trains use.)The other terminal ( North ) is mainly used by BA

Two types of trains go from Gatwick to London Victoria- Gatwick express ( quicker, more room for luggage, slightly more expensive around 30mins journey time - non stop with a trolley service of drinks and snacks that you can buy.) and the Connex services ( generally older trains and slower but a bit cheaper. London Victoria to Green Park You could take the Underground ( Victoria line northbound 1 stop) but a taxi is likely to be more convenient and not too expensive

Have a great time in London.

This was a good question, and funny the same one I had. I have chosen the less expensive flight into Gatwick and I have a private driver scheduled to pick me up, thanks to you all giving the above advice.
