Gatwick Express experience

I am wondering if anyone out there has had experience with the Gatwick Express from Gatwick to Heathrow. I will have 4 hrs 45min inbetween flights. So that should not be a problem.

Gatwick Express takes you from Gatwick Airport to Victoria Station in London. You'd have to manage to get to the Paddington Station in London to catch another "Express" train to Heathrow.

Look into car services like Ray Skinner to get you from one airport to the other. I wouldn't even risk trying to visit anything in London in between flights. Queue time, transit time, check in and security will gobble up those hours in a jiffy.

But if you do decide to risk it, a few airlines offer check-in service at Paddington prior to hopping on the Heathrow Express. Something to consider.

The site http://gatwick.localwebsuk.com/gatwick-8.shtml lists these coach services
SpeedLink Direct link to Heathrow serves all terminals at both airports. http://www.GoByCoach.com
JetLink Heathrow, Luton Airport, Stanstead Airport, Cambridge & Norwich. http://www.GoByCoach.com
Oxford Express Oxford via Heathrow http://www.oxfordbus.co.uk

Isn't there a bus service (Speedlink) between the two airports? Check out the airport websites, or contact your airline, but I really think there is a regular airport to airport connection bus. That would certainly be better then taking Gatwick Express into London, then a taxi to Paddington and the Heathrow Express to Heathrow. (it would probably all take about the same time)

As others have said, there is no express (train) service between the airports, although you could combine the Gatwick Express, taxi and Heathrow Express to make this connection in a circuitous fashion.

National Express now operates the bus service between Heathrow and Gatwick (Flightlink, Jetlink and Speedlink are no more). For info on this service, cut and paste this link into your browser:

National Express lists a 50-60 minute travel time between airports. That can be longer during rush hours if traffic problems crop up on the "M". British Airways, for example, recommends a minimum 3 hour connection time between airports.

As everyone has said, there's no train between the 2 airports (Gatwick Express is a train)but rather a bus. The info that David posts above is new though. Try to get your boarding pass for your 2nd flight at your starting point. Lines for checking luggage are shorter than those for boarding passes AND luggage.

I have taken the Gatwick Express from Gatwick to London Victoria. It's non-stop, takes about 30 minutes and costs GBP11 one way.
