Gatwick - Bloomsbury?
 

I arrive in London Gatwick at 5:30 am - what would be the most direct route on a Saturday morning?

You can take the Gatwick Express to Victoria and then the tube to the closest stop to your final destination in Bloomsbury.

It might be easier to get the First Capital Connect train to St Pancras International, and then taxi or bus or possibly walk from there, depending on where you are in Bloomsbury:

Victoria will be less of a zoo than on a weekday morning, but it's still not the most convenient tube station to have to manhandle luggage through.

The train that normally goes to St Pancras from Gatwick is currenty diverted at weekends and stops at London Bridge.

The pretty rotten case for throwing money away by geting the Gatwick Express, rather than the cheaper, and five minutes slower, Southern train from Gatwick to Victoria collapses at weekends.

There a number of tube stations a Bloomsbury hotel might be walkable from, or you might need to get a cab from Kings Cross, Holborn, Warren St or wherever. Easiest to get the Southern train to Victoria and use the money you've saved on a taxi straight there.

This is the perfect advice and should help ease any confusion for the OP.

It would be a lot less confusing if we knew where you are staying. Just "Bloomsbury" complicates things a bit since different specific locations would change what your best route is.

So -- tell us where you are staying and we can tell you precisely haw to get there w/o and confusion or much anyway :)

Money being no object...:) last May I took Gatwick Express to Victoria, then walked across concourse to Travel office and bought/loaded up an Oyster card, then took tube to Googe St..walk to my hotel near B.M.

Ok ok - near Russel Square - and only 1 person...so I think a taxi is out....

Not really sure why all the secrecy about where exactly you are staying. But assuming your hotel is on or very near Russell Square, you'd:

1- take the train from LGW to Victoria.

2- At Victoria walk down into the tube station (Signposted as 'Underground') and take a Victoria line train <u>northbound</u>.

3- At the next station - Green Park - get off and follow the signs for the Piccadilly line (a semi-long walk - don't exit the station). Take a Piccadilly <u>eastbound</u> train 5 stops to Russell Sq.

4- Exit the tube station. Where to walk from the station depends on where you are staying.

Oh -- #2a - buy your Oyster card in the tube station.

Hi JanisJ - not about secrecy - but why even say it - some people have such a chip - if you want to provide information I am sure we are all grateful - if you don't then don't but thank you for such an explicit description to my secret destination

My point was -- unless we know what street you are on -- the instructions might be different. Like different tube stations, or different tube lines, a landlord being 'loose' w/ describing a location -- several possibilities.

I wasn't being nosy -- I don't give a rat's ass where you're staying. We really can't tell you accurately how to get someplace unless we know where it is. Now you know how to get to Russell Sq - the rest is up to you . . . .

Minkie, you will find that people here give great information..but to get good answers, good information must be provided..and with multiple Tube lines accessing that area a street address could really change optimal route....and some places "stretching" the real estate definition of where they are located....

Bloomsbury is the area I've always stayed in. Nice area. Sorry to hear about cancellation...
