Gasoline Prices
 

Gasoline prices in the states are inching up towards $3.00 per gallon. What are prices like in Scotland these days? Are gas stations hard to find in the Northwest corner of Scotland? (Durness/Tongue)

about US$6.50 per gallon. i found no problem finding petrol stations in that area.

The prices aren't strictly comparable since an Imperial Gallon is about 1/5 larger than a US gallon. But when petrol is priced by the litre - you KNOW it's expensive :)

In that part of the country there are few towns let alone petrol stations. You won't really have problems, since the cars have small engines and get really good mileage (a bit less so if you are renting an automatic). But when you get down below about 1/2 full and find an open station it is wise to fill up.

In remote areas the stations tend to have shorter business hours, and are often closed on Sundays.

Google this: <b>.96 gbp/l in usd/gal</b> and you will see dollars per U.S. gallon.

Petrol, as it is called in the U.K., is about one pound per litre. There are 4.5 litres to the imperial gallon and 3.6 litres to the U.S. gallon. Therefore, one U.S. gallon will cost 3.6 pounds!!

One US Gallon=3.785 Liters

Along the same lines, we'll be renting a car in Italy next month. Does anyone know what gas is costing there these days?

There are current prices somewhere, but I didn't look further than December 2005:

1.22&euro; per liter, or $5.71 for a gallon.
