Gasoline costs-Lake Como region and Dolomites
What is the cost of gasoline (petrol)
these days in Italy? We ditch the car when we get to Venice, but we will be doing some driving-airport to Lakes, Lakes to Dolomites & Dolomites to Venice. Thanks, all the info I have gotten here has been very helpful. Shirley |
Here's the link:
http://www.iru.org/Services/Fuel/Welcome.E.html Regular gas is 1.35 Euro per liter at today's prices. To figure out price per gallon, multiply by 3.8 (roughly the number of liters to the gallon) then multiply that amount by the rate for Euros which is roughly $1.26 at today's rate. That's about $6.50 a gallon. ((b)) |
Thanks, and here we are all whining about $3.13 a gallon! Bummer though, it may be one less piece of glass I can buy in Venice!!! Nah. We'll eat noodles when we get home. Shirley

Hi luv,
If you can get a diesel engine, you will save about 30% on fuel costs. ((I)) |
ira is correct. If you ask for and get a diesel, you will save. Fuel is less expensive, and you get better mileage. We had a Punto (I believe that's what it was), and I did some rough calculations, and got about 50 mpg. ((b))

Thanks Budman & ira, we'll try that. My hubby tells me we never get the car we "reserve" to begin with, maybe there will be one hanging around that is diesel. Shirley

In France the best place to buy gas is a Super mercado-the savings is wonderful-any thoughts about the best place to purchase gas in Italy?

Please also remember that Italian cars get waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better mileage than our cars, so you will not be filling up a lot.
Also remember that without a car, you will be spending money on train or bus fares, and often more money on hotels and food because you will be in larger towns, where things are more expensive than the countryside. And if you stick to large cities, you will spend money on entrance fees to museums and other urban pleasures rather than enjoying natural sights. I think the cost of petrol is trivial compared to the enjoyment of seeing the Italian countryside. A gallon of petrol takes you very far in Italy. |
