Garnier Opera House Tours

My family will be visiting Paris in mid March and we would love to tour the Garnier Opera House.

I did a search of fodors and Degas mentioned that there may be an English tour at 3:00 pm?
Can anyone confirm this? I have checked the website for Garnier Opera and I cannot find any info about tours.

Thank you for your help! Laurie

Hi Laurie,

The English tours are Saturdays at 12:15. However, the tour may not run every Saturday...it's at the discretion of the Opera staff. This is what I was told last April.

You can see inside the Opera without a tour.

We toured the Opera house on our own and found it very interesting even without a guide. There are English explanations in every room. Don't miss the downstairs where they have models of different stage settings and also costumes from previous productions.

I've been in the Opera a couple of times on my own before taking the tour. The tour [which lasted an hour and forty-five minutes] was an entirely different experience and I recommend it highly.

I would also recommend you take the guided tour if you can - you will see lots of wonderful things you cannot access on your own, and it is IMO one of the best tours in Paris.

Thank you all for your replies. We will only be in Paris on a Wed. and Thurs., so I guess we will just walk around in the Opera House.

Thanks again for your help! Laurie
