Garmisch to Zell Am See by train
 

Kindly advise if we 2 adults and 2 children below 12 years can use the Einfach Raus ticket to travel from Garmisch To Zell Am See.

Will we get the ER ticket in Garmisch train station?

The Einfach Raus Ticket is valid for Austria, right? Garmisch is not in Austria. If you take the route via Mittenwald you can use the ER ticket from Scharnitz onwards, but have to buy a ticket from Garmisch to Scharnitz first.

Weird Garmisch is on a train line that comes from Austria, goes into Germany a tad at Garmisch then goes back thru Austria to Innsbruck - Austrian trains run the route so perhaps the ERT may be valid?

You can not use the Einfach Raus to begin the journey from Garmisch. This info is also available in english.
This ticket is good only in Austria.

In addition, with the restriction to Regional, REX and SBahn only , the available train journeys are very limited and lengthy.

Also note contrary to the above while a train line comes from Austria into Garmisch , it is also possible to reach it easily via the route Munich - Garmisch only passing through Germany.

Guess you get off at the first Austrian station and buy the discount ticket? Or if in Garmisch some days pay the few euros to train to that nearby Austrian station to nab tickets.

Otherwise you can also get it from the upgraded vending machines (the ones with touch screens) at any train station also in Germany.

For that very short leg from Garmisch to the Austrian border (assuming you go via Innsbruck), the regular train tickets would be cheaper than any day pass or special offers.
bahn.com website computes the price for 2 adults and 2 children under 14 from Garmisch to Mittenwald (DE/AT border) at €7.80 altogether.

Buy your tickets on line as recommended above.

Never consider getting off the train at stations like Scharnitz mentioned above to buy as ticket and then re board the train.

The total time for this type of stop is about 1 minute before the train resumes its journey- certainly not enough time for this purchase.

But for now just to clarify - we will be in Seefeld and then move to Garmisch. Which is the cheapest way to go about it using ER ticket/Lander tickets? Would ER/Lander tickets work out cheaper than regular tickets? In the DB bahn site which I feel is more user friendly, can I just put the departure and arrival stations and put the option as local transport only. Would all the options come through?

In case we opt to go from Garmisch to Seefeld - would the same process work?

I know I am confused. I hope I have not confused all the others.

Garmisch to Seefeld (in Tirol) (or other Seefeld in Austria?) costs 22.60 for 2 adults and 2 kids. It is safe to assume that traveling the opposite way will be more or less the same.
Any combination of the Bavarian and Austrian day passes will be more costly.
So, when in Seefeld, just go to the station and buy the tickets.

I must admit that your questions are confusing.
Are you going
a) from Seefeld in Tirol TO Garmisch or
b) from Garmisch to Zell am See or
c) both a+b but on seperate days?

I've done this exact trip a few years ago (Salzburg-Garmisch via Zell am See). Indeed you will need to buy a DB ticket from Garmisch to Scharnitz, then use the Einfach-Raus ticket from there. Do not get off at Scharnitz, as it is a small, unattended station in the middle of nowhere.

Please be aware that you must then take the route:

Scharnitz-Innsbruck-Woergl-Saalfelden-Zell am See. This is a beautiful but long way to get to Zell. Another reminder is that you must use regional trains in 2nd Class.

If you are concerned about buying an Einfach-Raus ticket in Garmisch, Buy one at Bahnhof Seefeld in Tirol before you go to Garmisch. You will probably need to specify the date of use however.
