Garmisch to Prague
We will be leaving Garmisch for Prague on a Friday with our return to Munich on a Tuesday. What is our easiest option with the least cost? Should we buy a Bayern ticket from Garmisch to the Czech border and then purchase the Anschlub ticket? I see the Prague Special is only from Munich. Can I purchase the Anschlub ticket at the same time I purchase the Bayern? I want to make sure I have this down before we get there. Thank you for all of your help.

Back in 1996 driving into Prague was the cheapest option for us. We researched it, lokked into the Prague Special from Munich, look into train schedules and driving was the way that worked the best for us. That said, train is popular and may very well be the best way to work in your circumstances.
We drove from Garmish with an overnight in the German border town of Furthiwald. We got up very early and crossed the border with mostly trucks. The rationale was that they would spent no time with us with commercial cargo to worry about. It worked; the Border patrol spent about 15 seconds checking our documents. Do make sure you tell the rental agency of your intentions to drive the car into Eastern Europe and make sure they annotate in your rental agreement that you are authorized to do so. Again, better safe than sorry.

Sorry for nitpicking, but it is an Anschluss. Spelling might make a difference when researching online.
In any case, especially with a small group it is probably the cheapest way to go.
I have read that Bayern-Ticket may be used as far as Plzen/Pilsen, I am not sure though.
>I see the Prague Special is only from Munich.
You have to go through Munich anyway.
>Can I purchase the [Anschluss] ticket at the same time I purchase the Bayern?
I am not sure that you can get a Czech domestic tariff outside of the Czech Republic network. You can look at www.cd.cz or www.idos.cz whether you can get a ticket from the border station (depending on the route, either Bayrisch Eisenstein or Furth im Wald) to Prague. Otherwise I guess you can still buy the ticket from the conductor.

"Anschlub ticket". I thought only Clark Griswold said that.
The Praque-Spezial-Ticket is also valid at a slightly lower price from/to Regensburg and Nürnberg, but I think you will find in your case that a Bayern-Ticket and Anschluß tickets are the way to go. For 2 people from <Munich to Prague and return>, the Praque-Special would save you a little money, because it is €59 for a round trip. But you would still have to get to Munich. Using the BT would cost about €32 each way, from either GaP or Munich.
The Bayern-Ticket is only valid to the Czech border, not to Plzen. (It is the Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket that is valid to Plzen).
I don't think you can get the Anschluß ticket from a machine. You should probably buy it from a ticket counter so you get one for the right border crossing. However, get the Bayern-Ticket first from an automat. It costs €2 more at the counter.
You can produce the ß by holding down the <alt> key and typing 225 on the numeric keypad. It is also acceptable to type the German scharf-S (ßas a double s (Anschluss).

Viajero,
since the original posting Bavaria has added the €33 Bayern-Böhmen ticket which is like the Bayern-Ticket but valid from Plzen (and other places) to anywhere in Bavaria, not just from the Bavaria-Czech border. A Czech Rail ticket from Prague to Plzen is about €5 vs. about €11 from Prague to the German border.
