gare du nord to gare de l'est
We are arriving on Eurostar at the gare du nord and going immediately to Reims from the gard de l'est. I assume walking between the two stations is quick easy and safe.

Walking is perfectly safe during daylight. There is a step-free way: Head down boulevard de Denain straight away from the gare du Nord, at the first intersection turn slightly left into boulevard de Magenta. At the next major intersection turn left into rue du 8 mai 1945, which will lead you into the forecourt of gare de l'Est.
There is no reason to take the metro: You won't walk less but climb a lot of stairs, not to mention the time you will waste while waiting to buy a ticket.
Hope this helps
Phil.

It is a five minute walk. If you take rue d'Alsace, you will have to go DOWN a flight of steps just before Gare de l'Est.
The indications that Phil gave do indeed bypass the steps, but it is a slightly longer route.
The walk is perfectly safe at any time of day or night.

The short way is more like TWO floors worth of stairs. I just did this last week. If you ask a local, this is the way they tell you to take. Follow the no stair path. I would NOT take the short way next time even though all I had was a carry on.
