Gare de Lyon to Metro

Arriving in Paris on Train at Gare de Lyon, need to take metro to Chatelet Les Halles.
What directions for a newcomer to Paris, re obtaining metro ticket and is it all underground? Thanks for any assistance.

You can take RER line A directly to Châtelet_Les Halles, which is the next station to the west (direction Cergy_Poissy or Saint Germain-en-Laye). Just follow the signs for RER line A and one of these two directions. The ticket will cost around €1.40. The ride lasts about two minutes.

You could also take metro line 14 (direction St Lazare)- Chatelet is the next stop to Gare de Lyon on this line too. It's the newest line, trains are smarter and more modern than the RER.

Metro line 1 also goes to Chatelet but will be slower as there are more stops in between. Whatever line you choose, the ticket price stays the same.

If your incoming train has a "bar car" (ie. TGV), ask the bartender if they sell metro tickets.
We bought our initial metro tickets this way (on the Thalys) and could skip the ticket window/vending machine and go straight to the metro.
