Early I asked about getting to Garching. Does anyone know if the taxi charge is per person or per ride (we are a family of 4)?

Can I ask where Garching is??

That is okay - I only asked because I had never heard of it.

It can be reached from central Munich by the U6 line, north bound. <BR>I have never been there, but my hotel in Munich the last two summers could be reached via a U6 train, and I travelled in the direction of Garching - Hochbr&uuml;ck.<BR><BR>The international airport is on the northeast side of Munich. The distance between the two, Garching and the airport, is less than the distance into the city center of Munich.<BR><BR>The suggestion to take public transportation is feasible only if there is a direct bus line from the airport to Garching. I don't know if there is or isn't. If there isn't, the only way I can think of that does not involve a long train ride, is to take the Lufthansa bus to the Nordfriedhof stop and transfer to U6 line headed north to Garching.<BR>There may be a better way, but so far that information has not been forthcoming here.<BR>

We have gotten a bifurcated thread going here. I had earlier told gb he could take the Lufthansa bus to the Nordfriedhof stop and transfer there to Ubahn line U6 headed north to Garching-Hochbr&uuml;ck.<BR>I thought that by the time he paid to ride the bus and bought Ubahn tickets, that a taxi would be the most efficient method and that the cost differential would be marginal.

Taking a taxi would surely be the easiest and probably the fastet way to go<BR>I wouldn't try anthing else

WOW! Thanks for the great answers! Bob, what was that email address. Since there are four of us, just arriving after the long flight and the cost is per ride, I think we will take the taxi. My guess is that the train or bus would cost almost that much for four with more hassle.

The taxis line up in a row and you are encouraged to take the first one in line. I am not sure the answer was based on 4 people, but in my experience 4 will, if two are children, will fit in a Munich cab. I have ridden with 3 adults, 2 in the back seat. I am sure 1 adult and 2 children could fit in the back while the other adult rode in the front.<BR>I do not know how much English your driver will understand, but usually the taxi driver can understand some English.<BR>However, it would be a good idea to have in writing the name and address of your destination.<BR><BR>It will not hurt to send them a message. Usually someone around an office in Germany can read English. If the response is in German, there are people who read Travel Talk with German language skills and who probably would be willing to translate it. If I see it, I will be glad to do what I can.<BR>If I can't crack it, then I will ask one of my German friends to have a go at it.
