Garbage crisis in Naples.

So how's the garbage crisis in Naples these days? I hear it's better but not much has changed for breathing in toxic waste. I hear it is still a major problem and will always be a problem as long as the Mafia has there way. I will be traveling to Calabria soon and my friend asked about Naples and I said ......... I think not. :)

HUH? We spent three days in Naples last month, and certainly didn't see a 'garbage crisis.' There are some areas near the train station that are dirtier than others, but overall we had a great impression of the city and really enjoyed our short visit.

It has been exported to the Netherlands for disposal I believe.
I don't think there is a problem any longer.

Recently back from Naples and no sign of garbage/trash problems such as there was when we were there a couple of years ago. However, Palermo a different story with trash/garbage piling up and spilling out onto sidewalks.

Just checked and yes a boatload of garbage a week is sent to Rotterdam for incineration.
Since we recycle everything here there is a surplus capacity at the incinerators, and the Rotterdam company signed a contract with Naples to deal with their rubbish.

<i>"I hear..I hear..."</i>

Either you heard wrong or something worse.

I was there in 2010 and it was clean. Period. It smelled much better than most major European cities.

What an interesting first post...

"<b><i>there</b></i> way"? "Mafia"?

How old are you?

A similar q was asked elsewhere recently, for which I took these on a trip through the city - from port to airport - one day in May...

Essentially - crisis over, long ago....

Part of the population's reluctance to bother with using the rubbish bins, ongoing...
