Galway, Ireland

Hey, I'm a 22 year old girl moving to Galway with her friend from Toronto for 6 months and I was wondering in terms of accommodations - if it's easy to find an apartment/rooms without needing a car to and from the city without breaking the bank?
As well as if Galway were a good city to move to in the first place. We're very lively bar/party people and definitely don't want to go somewhere sketchy with a crappy night life - or anywhere where there aren't much young people, or males.
We were also wondering if it were easy to find bar jobs or even retail with both of us being EU citizens?

Thanks ahead!

Galway as you are probably aware is very much a student town so you will be competing with a sizeable number of others both for short term accommodation and casual work. There is presently a student accommodation crisis in Galway as the new cohort of students start their academic year.
There has been no reported shortage of males however.

As above, You might find http://www.daft.ie/ handy for accommodation and http://boards.ie/ (pre pub clearance) handy for your type of questions.

I recently spent two nights in Galway and found it to be "hopping" with nightlife, bars and restaurants.

Galway has a lot going for it as a city for young people, but you will have two problems (already mentioned here) accommodation and work. The standard apartment lease is twelve months, and it's difficult to get 6-month lets.

Your best bet might be the "rent a room" scheme which often involves taking rooms with home-owners - usually younger people trying to get help with their mortgage. Have a look here to get a picture of what the market is like: http://www.rent.ie/rooms-to-rent/galway/. Note that more than half the places are well outside the city, which should tell you that your options might be quite limited - and not cheap.
