Galway city? Or location nearby?
My husband, 2 kids (17 & 19) and I have only 5 days in Ireland in early June. We’re not renting a car but would like to see a variety of Ireland (in as much as we can in a short time anyway.) The first 2 days will be in Dublin, then we’re taking a train to Galway for 2 nights where we can enjoy the town and also see the the Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher. Our last night will be in Ennis since we’re flying out of Shannon the following day. Given the ages of our kids and the sights around Galway we are happy with the plan (are we?) but I’m not sure I want to spend 4 nights in cities. Any suggestions for another home base near Galway? Or is this good? I’m having a hard time with distance and of course my active young adults. Thanks!

I would stick with Galway so you have a variety of dining and things to do in the evening. It is a city but very walkable and not huge. Galway tour company is good for day tours. The Galway bus station has more info on day tours. The Gobus is also a good deal on getting to Galway from Dublin.
Michael Faherty does great tours to Inishmore and he picks up at the Galway bus station also. |
Plus Galway is not a big city like London or New York, it's a smaller city with a nice vibe. Taking day trips from Dublin and Galway and the train ride will give you a look at the countryside. I recommend the Park House Hotel in Galway for its central location, including being right around the corner from the train station.
