Thanks Mac. Our family in Galicia has been going to Malpica for years. Their kids, now go elsewhere, because it is not too cool.

There's a commemorative plaque near San Andrés de Teixido which records Leslie's plane being shot down just off the coast there. The plane was flying up from Lisbon and was intercepted just off Cape Ortegal. This is where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Cantabrian Sea (Bay of Biscay). I was wrong when I said the plane crashed into the cliffs, it was shot down very close to them but went down in the sea. The plaque is a nice touch.

The Guardian indeed voted Playa de Rodas as the world's finest beach. I was just making the point that many others are worthy of the term 'awesome'. As far as the Playa de Esteiro (Mañón) is concerned it's true that it draws the surf crowd, but mainly locals due to localismo (you'll know what that means, I'm sure). The beach that attracts the international crowd in numbers for one week in September is Pantín. A close friend of mine, a Cornishman, is the commentator there. The rest of the time you're more likely to meet people from Espasante, Barqueiro and Cariño (great name) there, NOT johnny foreigner. My in-laws live there, so again, I know something about the area.

Finally, Bares is more affected by rolling mists rather than rain, but never mind, let's not split hairs, old chap.

Con Dios...

P.s. Don't believe everything you read in Wikipedia, Mr. Ribeira Sacra. Trust local knowledge. It does rain in Cabo Ortegal, quite a bit, but Twitchers are more concerned with storm petrels, choughs and peregrine falcon sightings and generally couldn't give a tinker's cuss about a few innocuous raindrops. We love bruma up here, just love it. Mist rolling in from the sea, my desire, is always to be here, oh' Cabo Ortegal. All together now...
