Galangal
I live in a bit of a backwater (Anglesey) and can't buy galangal.
My daughter is returning from Cambodia this week. Would she be allowed to import a small quantity for me? |
Plants are usually prohibited. Ginger can be used as an alternative.
|
You could just buy it mail order. http://www.seasonedpioneers.co.uk is one site I found by googling 'uk spices'.
|
Thank you both for responding- it is of note that my local Tesco was even out of root ginger yesterday!
Thanks for the website Owain that could be useful. Meanwhile I'm left wondering what the definition of "plant" is.... Its not as if galangal is growing or to be planted..... |
The website appears to only sell dried galangal.
HM Revenue and Customs website states certain plants and their produce are prohibited but it is not clear which ones. |
You can two types of galangal at the Bristol Sweet Mart.
www.sweetmart.co.uk You have to check things out but they have dried galangal as well as whole galangal. I haven't checked but I'm almost certain that they deliver. Enjoy blackduff |
