It cold be immensely disruptive. These incredibly arrogant people who think they have the right to tell the rest of us how to manage our money, whilst they make a shambles of what their coutries give them to look after, have the power to ruin us, each and evey one.

Disband the G7, that's what I say!!

Frank's daytrip suggestion is a great idea. Search google for G8 and riots and you'll see that violence is more likely to happen than not.

At the very least I'd find where the meetings are to be held which is where the protesters will be. Then you can avoid the area that day. Paris is plenty big enough to find something to do in another part of the city.

I haven't read where it's going to be held, but it seems it's usually in some fancy conference center or public building (elite, not routine), such as a chateau or something. In Paris, it has been in some monuments or famous sites, such as the conference place in the Louvre underground (where they have fashion shows sometimes) and at La Defense when it was newer, and one of the member's embassies. It will probably be easier to find out closer to the date as to exact location as it might be in the press, if no one knows. If I had to place bets, I'd guess somewhere in the 7th, 8th or 4th arr. They had it in Versailles once, as I recallk, in a fancy 4* hotel (or maybe they stayed there).

FRom what we see in the news and papers here in europe it looks a bit scary to me. I would avaoid the area for the day at all costs and take a trip outside. These days the riot police in the country that holds the summit are geared up before these events as they assume it will be messy and usually is.

Ah yes, the wisdom of the left, like Shiela. If it were up to some of you, you'd return to the days of 90% tax brackets, massive unemployment, and decaying inner cities, all in the name of a Socialist ideal.

The anachists and their friends on the fringes of rational thought, will probably make a mess of it. I'd avoid that section of Paris.

Since this is a meeting of the G7 finance ministers, not a G8 summit, itll be John Snow showing up, not George Bush. I think avoiding the area at all costs is a bit extreme. I would imagine protestors are more focussed on the WEF in Davos starting this Thursday and the G8 summit in Evian-les-Bains in June.

I doubt if they will be protesting at Jules Vernes.

I wouldn't let this concern me, I live in Washington DC and we have protesters here all the time similar to those events (anti-globalization, anti-G7, anti-IMF, etc) and I don't evacuate the city or leave town! Life goes on. I read one interesting item that France is going to support the demonstrators somewhat for the Evian meeting (financially, I think), how about that. I would not want to be right in the middle of any protestors, but I imagine you can avoid that.

The G7 summit is a low key, technical affair, nobody will notice, or even know, disruption will be pretty limited. Maybe what Cindy was referring to was the G8 in Evian, and this is the full monty of security, protesters, etc. But the Paris meeting will go unnoticed.
