Fussen to Rothenberg?

We are planning on driving from Fussen to Rothenberg. What is the best route? What sights should we not miss on the way?
Thanks!

Just get on the main road. It's a straight shot from there. I would stop in for a look at the Weiskirche, make a stop in Augsburg, Nordlingen, and Dinkelsbuhl.

I agree with Dutch. It is a pretty easy drive, and do stop in Dinkelsbuhl. It's a nice charming little town.

Are you planning to do it in one day? If so I would suggest stopping at the Wieskirche (note spelling - it means "church in the meadow", not "white church") and one other town - probably Dinkelsbuehl.

Here's what I wrote in my trip diary a few years ago:

"Heading up Romantic Road from Fussen towards Rothenburg. First stop at Wies Kirche (church) a few miles out of Fussen. This church was a jaw-dropping one. You have to see to believe. Extremely beautiful - a must-see. Drove approx. 3 hours from Fussen to Nordlingen (rained very hard most of the way). Had lunch here but nothing to see. Took one hour more to get to Rothenburg."

I hope you're planning on 2 nights in Rothenburg and will take the Nightwatchman's tour and then just have a great day wandering Rothenburg.

Is there a direct bus from Fussen to Rothenburg? Larry from Colorado suggests that there could be a new schedule.

They were planning to legalize longer distance regular bus services this year. But so far it still seems to be illegal. The only exception to the law so far is the route to Berlin.

More votes for Wieskirche and Dinkelsbuehl!

Definitely Dinkelsbuhl - we thought it was a terrific little town.

We managed this easy, delightful drive and stayed over inside Rothenberg walls. So romantic when crowds leave. And don't miss the Night Watchman tour!

In summer there is a regular bus service
