Fussen or Munich for Christmas??

I have reservations in both places and now need to decide! Our family would love to have a nice lunch/dinner then see a typical German church service with music on Christmas Eve. Magical is what I'm going for!!! Which is the best place to spend a nice, family Christmas Eve, in your expert opinions?!

(We leave for Salzburg on Christmas Day in the afternoon so suggestions on spending Christmas Day in Salzburg would be appreciated too!)

Munich for sure IMO - Fussen may be pretty dead but Munich will have more of what you are looking for and it is a whole lot closer to Salzburg than Fussen.

Munich's catholic cathedral and churches are sure to have what you want on Xmas Eve,

Munich for sure.

Another vote for Munich. I adore quiet small towns, but Fussen over Christmas would probably be too quiet...even for me...and that's saying something.

We've spent several Christmases in Munich and will be there again this year - it's incredibly festive...and busy.

Do be aware that even Munich pretty much shuts down at 2 pm on Christmas Eve.

Thanks for helping me decide! I have a lunch reservation now for Christmas Eve in Munich and will cancel Fussen for those nights.

Transportation doesn't shut down, does it!?

Nope, but I seem to recall that trains run on the Sunday schedule on holidays
