Fussen, Obermmergau or elsewher

We will drive from Munich and will spend 2 nights/days. Then when we leave we will drive to Rothenbug. We will probably spend the first day visitng Linderhof Castle, Wieskirche Church and maybe Obermmergau. The 2nd day we plan to visit Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. What would be a good location to stay for the 2 nights. And any lodging recommendations?

WE like to stay in Oberammergau for a centro location.
Look at Hotel Turmwirt and Hotel Wittelsbach for good value.

Do you think it is even necessary to make a reservation in early December on a week night?

how about staying a night in rothenburg? lots of good value accomodations there and rothenburg is a totally different experience if you stay after the tour bus hordes had left. you might even want to join the nightwatchman walking tour.

I would not recommend staying in R-burg if you are planning to visit the Ludwig builds; I've Stayed in Oberammergau more than once, both during the Passion Play, and at other periods. For what you want to do and considering that you'll have a car you may find more of a variety in accommodations in Fuessen. BUT, Oberammergau is a much more picturesque place to stay.

Hi,

I'd suggest spending your 2 nights in Fuessen. Contrary to an earlier post, we found Fuessen to be a very charming old town and Oberammergau not worth more than an hour or two. Sorry, just a personal preference.

We stayed twice at the Hotel zum Hechten in Fuessen.

We're looking at Gaasthaus Sissi at Garmisch-P. It looks amazing. We will use this to access all the sites you wish to see. Don't miss the abbey at Ettal. A peek in the church is well worth it. This area is truly amazing....so much so that I am returning with my husband this time.

Neuschwanstein/Fussen.are very close to the other places you mentioned. You can spend you nights in any of those places. Be sure ti add the Wieskirche to your list. As you can see on your map Garmish is at one end of the area if that matters to you.
