Yes Andechs - terrific beer. It was our second favorite, a close second to the rauchbeir we had in Nuremberg.

i will be traveling to Germany in September and I think this site has pretty good information. |
Hi Chris,
You might like Landsberg am Lech. It is on the way to Rothenburg and is under 1 hr by train from Munich. Ditto Mindelheim - 1 hr by train. ((I)) |
Taking a day-trip to Munich from Fussen by train isn't a bad idea. As said above, it's about a 2-hour train ride each direction. We did it from Munich to Fussen and back in one day, and it was a pleasant way to do it. The Bayern Pass, assuming it's sold in Fussen, makes it very cheap, too. (About 34EUR for a round-trip day pass for up to five people.) You wouldn't need your rental car until the 1st.

Actually 25 EUR (even better!), and it is sold everywhere in Bavaria where ANY train/bus tickets are sold. :-) |
I looked at that map again and I had it confused. I looked at so many hotels I forgot that I ended up with what I wanted! The book I have does show the placement around Munich. I'd be happy to post the websites for the places shown South of Munich. I already have the pages marked so it would not be any trouble. I remember that one has a 650 seat biergarten!!

Thank you everyone for your information and suggestions.
I have decided to try and find a hotel in the Ammersee area that is near a railway station (Starnberg, Herrsching or somewhere close by) as these are on the commuter train line and the trains run more regularly. Dohlice, if I don't have any success with finding a hotel today (as I am in Hong Hong and several hours ahead of you), I'll ask for some of those websites you found. |
