Fussen & Rothenburg
Can anyone recommend a hotel for a family 2adults 2 teenagers in Fussen & Rothenburg. Everything about the town of Rothenburg looks attractive, except the hotels which seem seedy, and I haven't seen anything positive in Trip Advisor. Any recommendations for Fussen? Thx

Hi meath1,
I highly recommend Hotel zum Hechten in Fussen. We stayed there in 2001 and 2003. Excellent location in the pedestrian zone, free parking in hotel lot, nice rooms (ask for a balcony, ours was facing Fussen's castle), very good buffet breakfast and helpful staff. They also have a good and reasonable restaurant. www.hotel-hechten.com Paul |
Hi M,
>..Rothenburg looks attractive, except the hotels which seem seedy, ...< What do you require in a hotel other than space for 4 people? ((I)) |
In Rothenburg we stayed at the Burg Hotel. We would definitely stay there again.

Another vote for the Burg Hotel. We were there for Christmas 2005 (2 adults, 2 teenagers) and loved it.

Consider staying in Hotel Greifen-Post in Feuchtwangen, 20min south of Rothenburg. It is not as touristy as Rothenburg hotels and you are more central on the Romantic Road.

Oh, minimum standards of hygiene, if it's not too much to ask. Heat in winter. Cooling in summer. A door that can be locked. Stuff like that. You know I have sanitation issues. - Terry Lee Collins |
You might want to check-out the following webpage:

Hygiene, heating and a door with a lock are normal standard in German hotels. Lack thereof deserves an official complaint.
AC, however, isn't. We prefer opening the windows. |
Seedy?
The first 7 hotels listed on Tripadvisor score 4.5 out of 5 "owls" as a rating and the number 3 hotel - "Hotel Hornburg" is rated #1 for families. The first 16 hotels listed score at least 4 "owls". What exactly are you looking for that makes a town full of lovely hotels seem seedy? I can personally recommend every one of the three I have stayed at. |
I was in Köln in June, 2003, when the ambient temperature was near 40°. We appreciated the ability to leave the windows closed and cool the room.

Great suggestion to check out Bavaria Ben. However, Ben is a person. His website is www.bensbauernhof.com. You'll find great recommendations there.

I've stayed at the Hotel Gasthof Glocke three times. I have traveled in Germany many times and have never found a hotel there to be anything but clean and attractive.
Rothenburg itself is quite charming before nine a.m. and after five p.m., but during the day it is overrun with tourists, especially the main square. However, it is very easy to find areas that are virtually empty of people. I really like the town a lot. |
