Funny European TV Shows
What are some funny Euro TV shows you've watched?
|
We still get the re-runs here in the states but "Are You Being Served ?" is my personal favorite. I believe it had quite a long run in Great Britain in the '70's & '80's.
|
Father Ted! Always made me :))
|
OK, It's not meant to be funny, but the newscast in Italy cracks me up--a woman, all blond and boobs, reading, yes reading, the newspaper to the viewers. They will show the newspaper with the headline highlighted of the story she is reading then flash to her reading the paper to the viewer!
|
Love "Keeping Up Appearances." I don't always watch it because I think I've seen every episode, but it airs Mon-Sat where I live. It's great to have phrases like "riparian entertainment" and "candlelight supper" at my disposal.
|
I love the Italian example..at least over there they are up front about the "reading it to you" part...and unlike the US, they save money on teleprompters, too!
|
The Italian version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" is great. They have a pouty model type with a lot of cleavage just standing behind the contestants (male or female) for no obvious reason. She doesn't speak she just licks her glossy lips and stares into the camera and bends over the contestant.

couldn't get through the day without a dose of my BBCAmerica. Love "Keeping up Appearances" and Ground Force, in particular.
And, in Italy, I LOVE the cheesy game shows! The lecherous old host with the scantily-clad assistants... |
I second all the British shows. One I particularly liked was the "Blackadder" series featuring Rowan Atkinson. My favorite was the season that took place during WW1. Also also loved the Dame Edna show. British TV ads are also sometimes as good as the shows!
|
How about a rerun of "Bonanza" dubbed in french? "merci Hoss" LOL
|
Well, I enjoy watching some of the poublic acces type shows. I saw one in Germany which was a debate on the conflict between bicycles and cars on the roadway. It got quite heated and went on for over an hour. A great way to put yourself to sleep after a long day of sightseeing.

Still miss Shelley, a UK comedy. Otherwise Corrie is great! Ab Fab as well.
|
AB FAB, what's that?? Never heard of it, sweetie. Could you explain? Cheers, thanks a lot.
PS I'm chanting as we speak. |
Ab Fab = Absolutely Fabulous, a hysterical British comedy series.
One of my favorites is the French "Qui est Qui? They bring out six (I think) people with six completely different professions, and mix them up, so that, for example, the butcher has to try to prove that he's a dog groomer, and the contortionist has to demonstrate how to debone a chicken, etc., and the audience has to guess who's really who. |
2 of my favorites:
As Time Goes By Benny Hill |
Another vote for FatherTed. Father Ted to apprentice priest Dougal: "What did you think of my sermon today Dougal?" Dougal: "Oh sorry Ted, I wasn't listening. I was concentrating on looking holy" --- Ted: "You know Dougal... GOD!" Dougal: "You mean you really believe all that Ted? (customary confused look)" |
3 Non Blondes on BBC. (It airs on BBC North America too). It's three non-blonde women (they're Afro-Briton) going around London pranking people. It's hilarious.
|
Got hooked on these in Australia luckily they air these on the BBCAmerica.
1)The Office 2)The League Of Gentlemen - off season now |
I came back to my Venice hotel room, exhausted from a very long day, threw myself on the bed and switched on the tv.
Something familiar filled the screen, lying there I couldn't make it out so I sat up and focused, it was a woman's derriere. She backed away from the camera and was wearing a little pink tutu and bra, then she backed up to the camera again, this went on and on. She would do a little dance and then shake her bottom at the camera again. In the morning the same station switched back to cartoons and game shows. |
Absolutely Fabulous, 3 Non Blondes, Coupling (British version) and The Office.
