There is also a funicular at the little hill town of Todi, not far from Orvieto. There must be another way to the town, but I didn't see it.

Cary Aug 24th, 2002 02:21 PM

Question for Nutella and Byrd: is there parking at the funiculars in Orvieto and Todi? Is that the way to get into town? Thanks. Cary

There is a funicular at the base of Sacre Coeur (sp) in Paris, at the Hohensalzburg in Salzburg and one in Orvieto.

US

To Cary, yes to both. Orvieto is a free lot Todi is a pay lot. They Both bring you to town (the bottom of Orvieto and the top of Todi).

Deb Aug 25th, 2002 04:25 AM

Cary,
I might add, the parking is free in Orvieto but you pay to ride the funicular. In Todi, you pay to park but the funicular is free.

Byrd Aug 25th, 2002 01:50 PM

Cary- When we went to Todi in February, there was no charge for the funicular. There was an unoccupied toll booth, but we were the only people to ride. We operated it ourselves with no problem. The view from the car was wonderful.

What is the cost to ride the Funicular in Paris?

Cary Aug 25th, 2002 08:58 PM

Thanks to all who gave me the information I needed. Cary

the funicular in Quebec is in front of the Chateau Frontenac hotel and connects to the old section, goes both ways and sure saves alot of steps.
There's a funicular at the Valle de los Caidos where Franco is buriednear El Escorial, outside of Madrid. It takes you up to the huge cross and you can see for miles, even El Escorial.

Someone mentioned a chairlift of sorts at Mount Vesuvius. There isn't one, you have to drive or walk up from my experience.

The lift on Capri is a furnicular, a tram going up a steap hill so you're not suspended in the air.

Happy travels and good luck!

Louisa

There is one in Bilbao that goes up to Artxanda (great views, http://www.metropla.net/eu/bil/bilbao.htm ) and in Prague there is one that goes from Ujezd up to Petrin Hill.
