Funicular to Sacre Couer-which Metro

I am trying to figure out which metro stop, Abbesses or Anvers, is better for connecting to the funicular up the hill to Sacre Couer. I've seen both mentioned.

Short walk from either. Just take the metro line that's more convenient for you. If it's 2 then, Anvers; 12, Abbesses; 4, Barbes Rochichouard.

But I believe the shortest walk is from Anvers.

Since you're looking for the funicular you're probably trying to avoid lots of stairs. Abbesses is deep and has lots of stairs but I believe there's also an elevator. If you don't take Abbesses to the funicular try to take Abbesses from Montmartre to see the artwork in the stairwell.

Anvers is closest, but the walk from Abbesses is nicer.

We stayed in Montmartre area and always took Anvers to the downtown area and came back to Abbesses. Nice area to stroll around with lots of shops, cafes, and restaurants.

On your way back from Sacre Couer, I would recommend walking back on Ave des Abbesses, turn left on Rue Lepic, and walk down to the Moulin Rouge to take a couple of pictures, then hop on the metro at Place Blanche (which is right across the street from the Moulin Rouge). Lot of fun, lot of shops & markets, and a fun stroll.

Hi,

There is an elevator at Abbesses.

You can also walk down the stairs, which are decorated with scenes of Paris.

Unfortunately, these were defaced with graffiti when we were there recently.

I agree that the walk up from Abbesses is "du charme." The narrow street winding past the cafes and markets was exactly what I pictured Montmartre to be.

There are indeed a lot of stairs at Abbesses, but there are two large elevators, as I recall. At any rate, one of them was always working when we were there, and they could accomodate a lot of people at once, though it seemed to me that only a few of us took the elevator. Most people took the stairs.

Best,
Sandy

The walk from Anvers may be the shortest but it's also straight uphill. The walk from Abbesses is kinda sideways, an easier walk, not so bad.

To say the walk from Anvers is straight "uphill," is a little misleading. It's not straight uphill as the uphill from the Funicular to Sacre Couer. It's a nice and entertaining walk thru the tourist shops and cafes.
