Fuimicino Airport Rome , Italy

How soon should one be at the airport when the flight leaves at 7:20am ? Are the rules the same as here - 3 hours before ? We are flying to Paris then Chicago..
just the thought of getting there that early is making me yawn now... thanks..

Yikes, frugaltraveler, we never get to the airport 3 hours ahead! For us, 2 hours has always been more than enough time since 9/11. Both domestic and international.

For an early morning flight like that out of Fiumicino, I think 2-2.5 hours is enough. I had 7:30 flights out of Fiumicino twice in 2006 and had the cab pick me up at the hotel in Rome at 4:45-5:00 am and had plenty of time at the airport for check-in and a last cappucino.

We are spending 2 nights in Rome, taking the train to Florence, spending 4 nights in Florence/Tuscany (renting a car) and then driving to Rome at the end of our last full day. I have reservations at the Hilton Garden Inn for the last night. I had planned to drop the car off at the airport. Our flight out is at 9:50 on a Friday morning. Should we stay where I had planned or should we return the car in Rome, spend the last night in the city and take a taxi to the airport early in the morning to catch our flight?

Hi N,

I would drop the car in Orvieto or Chiusi and take the train to Rome, stay in town and have a cab take me to the airport in the AM.

Thanks Ira. That must be a lot more expensive. I was thinking that we would stay out late, have dinner somewhere in Umbria and then return the car to the airport and go to the Hilton Garden Inn.
