Well, we are going in July. I had a devil of a time finding an apartment/gite. I am on a cheapskate budget. Anyway, after we got a small apartment lined up in Colmar, I discovered that the tour de France will be coming through and stopping in Colmar while we are there. Perhaps this explains the number of places that were already booked.
It is not air-conditoned but I checked and it appears that the average highs/lows in July are 80/55 which ought to be OK with the window open. But if not and we get hot, we get hot. |

Just hope that it gets hot -- because when Alsace (or Lorraine) has a cool rainy summer, it makes everybody miserable.

HiDukey; Here are two web sites you could try. www.hotel.info/alsace and www.venere.com/hotels/france/alsace iris1745/dick

Dukey--I am assuming that you took this trip. Could you give us an update on what you found as well as if there was a need for air conditioning in Alsace?

Dukey,
I'm with you about the A/C. It always seems to be our luck that Paris or Munich or Berlin or wherever we go has their hottest summer on record when we're there. So we've learned to look for air conditioning. This past July, we visited the Alsace, staying mostly in Accor hotels (a couple Ibis, several Mercure). All had air conditioning, which we were so happy to have! And the A/C was never turned off by a computer behind the front desk. All the hotels had plenty of parking, some we paid for and some were free. If breakfast was included with our rate (about half the time), we ate. Otherwise, we'd just get something from a nearby bakery or eat an early lunch, or eat the granola bars I brought from home. Today I've been going thru all my thousands of pictures. It's truly a beautiful area. Have a great trip! |
Oh well. wren is probably right that Dukey already went and came back. That'll teach me to check better for dates.

Seriously, swisshiker, when I imagine some of the hottest I have ever been, Berlin and Paris always come to mind!! We spent a horrifically hot night at a hotel in Berlin that did not have AC--back in '92--and since then we always make sure that there is AC where we stay. Traveling is meant to be enjoyed and a night of sweating, not sleeping, is a guaranteed way to ruin a vacation.

I was in Alsace August- September and no rain or too hot that year.
