From Zruich : jungfraujoch or titlis?

Hi, My base stay is at Zurich and unfortunately i cant change that and i have one full days time.

Can someone please suggest which of these two places jungfraujoch& titlis is a must see, I guess i cant cover both in a day so i have to choose one.

I'm thinking ill go to titlis and skip jungfraujoch? Do i miss anything in that case? is jungfraujoch any different (or better) to titlis? not sure! need some advise please.

Even if i have Day2 is it still worth going to jungfraujoch after having been to titlis?

Appreciate your help, Thanks!

All depends on your interests.
Titlis is just one snow mountain whereas Jungfraujoch is a Pass between higher mountains.
The journey to Titlis is shorter and cheaper that that to Jungfraujoch.
BTW: there are tons of other snow mountains and glaciers that you can visit from Zurich within 1 day.

You need to understand that on one specific day you may not be able to see either. These mountains are tall enough that the tops ar often in the clouds - and even if the valleys are very sunny the tops may well be white outs - can't see more than a foot or so in front of you - so not worth the time and cost to ascend.

Also, the Jungfrau is really too far from Zurich for a day trip - since it will be about a 5 hours trip once you get yourself to the base station in Interlaken.

I would explore options for Titlus - including how you determine conditions at the top and how/how long to get there - and then have another option for the day if mountains are not possible: either seeing things in Zurich or perhaps visiting Lucern by train - only about an hour away).

Yes, the Jungfraujoch is too far from Zurich to be a day trip. The best time to visit the Jungfraujoch is early morning before the early afternoon clouds roll in. You'd have to leave Zurich at something like 3 am to do that. Nothing is worth a 3 am wake-up!

It lasts 4 hrs 20 min from Zurich up to Jungfraujoch, for example Zurich dp 6.02 - Jungfraujoch ar 10.22.
Up to Eggishorn or Mittelallalin it would be 3 1/2 hrs

Titlis is awesome like the Jungfraujoch thoughnot nearly as extensive an area - thus easier to see and do in one day and a lot lot closer to Zurich.

Jungfraujoch is just too far and too expensive - $200 about for the Jungfraujoch train alone! for most.

Spend another day wandering around Lucerne and taking a boat ride on lovely Lake Lucern.

Check
www.titlis.ch for up to date info on the trip with webcam.
I believe the ascent "only" costs 89 CHF roundtrip from Engelberg. I personally loved it. You go up in stages, and can get out in Truebsee to do a circular walk around the Lake...beautiful, with the white peaks reflected in this mountain lake. You won't feel short-changed!

Go to www.rail.ch for train, etc schedules (it will automatically redirect you to the English timetable site). Type in your starting town and destination... It takes exactly 2 hours to get from Zurich HB (main train station) to Engelberg (and 74 CHF roundtrip). From the Engelberg train station, you can walk 15 minutes (follow signs to the Titlisbahn Talstation) OR take the bus for 4 minutes.
As others have noted, check the webcam, tourist channel on TV (it generally loops real time mountaintop weather) or ask at your hotel to investigate the weather forecast, so as not to waste loads of $!

As another alternative, take the train to Lucerne and then do the boat/train trip to Mt Rigi. Easily doable in a day trip from Zurich.

Zurich HB - Titlis RT: 175 USD
Zurich HB - Jungfraujoch RT: 365 USD

$365 - r.t. Zurich to the Jungfraujoch but if you buy a Half-Fare Card for about $130 you will get half off everything that moves in Switzerland - so the most you would pay for the Jungfraujoch jaunt from Zurich would be half of that and then you'd get half off anything else you do on public transports in Switzerland - you would save money even if just doing the Jungfraujoch from Zurich by buying a Half-Fare Card it seems.
