From Venice to Airport - how does one get there?!?

Hello!
We will be going to Italy on our honeymoon June 14-26. Our last stop is in Venice and we are wondering how we get from the island to the airport. Our flight leaves at 10:10am so I am assuming we need to be at the airport by 8am at the latest. We don't mind a somewhat roundabout way to save money but I don't want to be catching a bus at 5am or anything! ;-) Thanks for any and all advice. Oh and if anyone knows how to book the Secret Itinieraries tour I would very much appreciate any information on that, as well as anything else that is a "must".
Thanks!
Jill

Here is a recent thread on this topic (found by typing "venice AND airport" into the text box at the top of this page.)

Your transportation options are spelled out here:

Near baggage at Marco Polo, you can purchase a boat ticket, boat close by, for ride into Grand Canal. Or taxi to bus station, then to Venice to catch the vaporetto. Or to train to the Venice station, and then to V. stop #2. Quite simple actually, and fun. Best it to take the boat from the airport.

Thank you so much. I just discovered Fodors today and it has been most helpful already. One additional question, how long is the shuttle to the airport once you arrive by water. I was looking and it looks like a 6:50am boatride would put us at the airport at 8am. But if we need another shuttle... we might be running late.

Congratulations from one Aggie to another! Definitely take a boat to the airport. It is much faster and allows for a much more memorable parting glance of Venezia. It has been a few years since we were there, but I don't remember having to take an additional shuttle after getting to the airport. Ask the concierge at your hotel to arrange the transportation. (This is a good idea for gondola rides, too.) Have a wonderful time in Italy. Whoop!

Thanks magicone! I am class of 2002. Always wonderful to meet another Aggie
I think we will definitely do a boat instead of the vaporetto to bus alternative after your post!

The airport dock for the water taxis and the alilaguna boats from Venice is a five or ten minute walk from the terminal. A shuttle bus does run between the terminal and the dock or you can choose to walk.

The shuttle bus service started about 2-3 years ago when the new airport building opened. Before that, the dock was just out of the arrival hall. We once took the shuttle to get to the dock as we did not know how far exactly was the dock from the new building. It took about 5 minutes. On our departure, however, we walked from the dock to the airport for about 10 minutes since our luggage was not huge. The walkway is quite straight forward to the airport vs the shuttle takes a bit roundabout way.

It's been a few years, but my last time I recall the boat was only seconds from baggage control, so I'm not aware of the need for a second anything. I recall we got off the boat and walked in and checked in. Yep, it seems to me it was about an hour ... but I'm wondering if the weather and time at each stop will affect the time appreciably. Have fun, and you will love Venice!!!! I suppose if you're flush with money, a private boat could be arranged by your hotel. But that would be very costly.

Yes, onurzas, it's been a while. The boat docks are no longer right outside the airport. So whether you take the Alilaguna water shuttle or a private taxi you have to either walk or take the shuttle bus to the docks.

The Alilaguna schedule takes into account the few stops it makes. The additional few minutes on the shuttle bus or walk will not put TexasAggie behind schedule. Congratulations on your quite sane departure time, by the way: I've done the Alilaguna trip to the airport in the very early morning hours, with two kids in tow no less.

Just got back last week. We ordered a water taxi from our hotel on the Grand Canal. The ride took 30 minutes to the airport. You will arrive at a dock where you can wait for a shuttle bus to the terminal, but if the weather is fine then walking is just as quick - its not far at all.
Cant recall the exact fare but around 70 euros rings a bell, not cheap, but very direct, pleasant and easy.
Enjoy.
