From the Vienna Airport to the Ringstrassa
Will be arriving into Vienna on Thursday morning (3/17). What's the best way into the city? Taxicab would be easiest, but is it very expensive? The train seems like a good option, but might be very crowded on a weekday morning morning.
Just curious, if anyone has any experience with travel from the airport to the Ring... |
I never take taxis when arriving in Wien, so I have no idea what they're charging these days to get from the flughafen to the Ringstrasse.
However, I do know from experience that it is very easy to get there by taking either the shuttle bus directly in front of the arrivals hall, for 6 or 7 euro, about a 30 minute ride to Schwedenplatz metro station (on the Ring). Another choice is the new City Air Transport Train (CAT), about a 20 minute ride to City Air Terminal (on the ring), cost about 9 euro. Then, there is the S-7 (S-Bahn) underneath the airport, also goes to City Air Terminal, takes longer, about 40 minutes, makes more stops, less comfortable than CAT, but is only 3 euro. On the S-Bahn, you can transfer to the U-Bahn or a tram using the same 3 euro ticket to get to your hotel or whatever is your destination within the city. Hope this helps. |
Thanks. Very helpful reply.

I (almost) always take taxis from the airport into town...last week, I paid 31 euros; I booked the taxi in the arrivals hall. It is the flat rate charged for central Vienna destinations. On the way back, I paid 35 euros for a taxi called by the hotel.

Fritz7,
This depends if you are alone or not and the amount of your baggage and where you are staying in the city. C&K airport transport will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel for 25 E. Google it for details and reservation by e-mail if interested. |
