From Sulmona to see best of Gran Sasso
I've been struggling with this part of my itinerary for months. After a night in Sulmona, I want to drive through the Gran Sasso area (probably SS 17bis) and stay overnight somewhere that would allow us to get on the road (A24) in the morning to head northwest toward Umbria. Originally I thought we'd spend 2 nights in L'Aquila so we have a day to explore Gran Sasso but am re-thinking that plan. We have no plans to hike but probably would like to take the gondola at Assergi. Any suggestions would be appreciated. PS Trip is planned for Spring 2023.
